沙丁龐客劇團成立於2005年3月，團名來自於法文Saltimbanque，意涵為「街頭藝人、公眾表演者、雜技演員、小丑」。
沙丁龐客劇團希望藉由面具、小丑、歌舞、默劇、物件、集體發展等元素，融合互動式劇場、即興喜劇與肢體劇場的方式，摸索新的表演形式，進而創造屬於當代東方的大眾劇場。
我們所訴求的劇場，它必須是一面鏡子，能夠反射出當代社會的現象與問題，同時間，又必須是精緻的、貼近社會大眾的、詩意的、兼具娛樂性與藝術性的。換句話說，就是將高品質劇場分享給最廣大的群眾。以所有人都能欣賞的戲劇形式，呈現出現實生活中的荒謬與詩意，講述那些確切存在於生命中的幽微情感，並碰觸與生活密切相關的社會議題。我們相信，「觀眾」是劇場存在的最重要因素，貼近生活的戲劇才能讓觀眾感動！這是我們成立的宗旨，也是我們努力的目標。
同時，我們亦認為演員是劇場的重要元素，所以致力於探索演員的表演質地與極限，期待以集體發展的方式，創造出以演員為主體的劇場藝術。
Theatre de la Sardine was founded in Taipei, Taiwan in 2005 by Chao-Chi Ma who was trained at the École internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. The company’s name comes from a French word ‘Saltimbanque’, which means street performer, clown and acrobat.
Theatre de la Sardine uses mask, clowning, mime, puppet and music to create a new form of contemporary Asian physical theatre. For us, theatre is like a mirror that reflects the truthness of the society that we live in. Our goal is to create poetic, accessible, entertaining productions for a wide audience. We try to reveal the extraordinary hiding in the ordinary, to find poetry in everyday life.
We always work in a collective way, with the actors, in the rehearsal room. We believe that Actor is the center of the creating process. By pushing the boundary of the actors’ capability, we can finally reach outstanding artistic quality and finding new possibilities with each project.
